Frequently Asked
Questions

Hampton is an exclusive membership community designed for founders and CEOs. Its core purpose centers around cultivating a founder-focused peer network, with a primary emphasis on core groups of peers, executive facilitators, ongoing knowledge-sharing among peers, and incredible in-person events.

Hampton is currently only accepting applications for founders, CEOs, and owners of business. Your business must be generating >$1M in revenue, OR you must have raised >$3M in venture capital, OR you must have had a previously successful exit (>$5M). Those are our bare minimum requirements.

We also evaluate your background and past experience, your current company, traction, growth rates, and industry. We favor founders of high-growth and tech-enabled companies, and people who we think are going to be generous and collaborative members of the community.

Anyone can feel free to apply through this application. If you’ve been referred by a current Hampton member, please remember to list their name or use this link, as your application will moved to the front of the line.

Joining Hampton involves a three-step process:

  1. First, we ask you to fill out an application, which should take five minutes. At this step, we'll evaluate your qualification and reach out when we see a potential fit in an upcoming cohort.
  2. You’ll schedule a 30-minute Zoom interview with our Membership Team, where we can learn more about you and you can learn more about Hampton.
  3. Last but not least, your completed application will go through a series of additional steps, and you'll back hear from us with an update in a few days!

Hampton’s number one priority is maintaining the quality and integrity of the community and the expertise of its members. For that reason, we’ve decided to create a chapter-based system that allows the community to grow in the best ways and yet also stay intimate in the best way possible. We can elaborate more during your interview if you have further questions.

We recently closed our second chapter, Sycamore, and we’re certain our next chapter, Aspen, will intentionally have even fewer members than our first two.

"The Hampton 5” are the five core pillars through which we view our member benefits:

  1. Core Group:  Hampton core groups consist of ~8-9 founders and an executive facilitator who meet 10 times per year for 2 hours each session. Core groups are a structured way to develop real relationships with founders in similar situations in order to connect, share, and get invaluable business feedback and advice. Group meetings should be the most inflexible item on your calendar, so founders need to be serious about the commitment.
  2. Digital Community: We pride ourselves on having the most active, generous, and engaged founder community in the world. We also have a weekly members-only newsletter, a private member portal that includes a member directory and interactive map, interactive features, and a dedicated community concierge available to help you connect and maximize your Hampton experience.
  3. In-person Community: Hampton members love being together. That’s why we have our famous Hampton Member Dinners, which are planned, organized, and paid for by Hampton. We plan incredible in-person retreats, set in beautiful and luxurious settings, available to every Hampton member in their first year. We’re actively planning a host of Hampton “Experiences”, which are unique, one-of-a-kind and spontaneous group activities (for example, skiing in Tahoe, rally car racing in Austin, and lobster diving in Florida). Last but not least, our members are always congregating on their own, and we’re there to help facilitate dozens of Community Hangs, whether it’s at a coffee shop or a suite at a sporting event.
  4. Speaker Series & Education: Our speaker series aims to bring in other founders and successful CEOs so you can continue learning from the best there is. Our goal isn’t just to bring in “big name” speakers, but rather to have knowledge-sharing sessions that are applicable to your business. Our three types of workshops are “Beyond the Book”, Knowledge-Shares, and Tacitcal Workshops.
  5. Exclusive Perks: There are a number of perks available only to Hampton members. SaaS deals, credits, and a preferred vendor database that we call The Hampton Vendor Vault, are all at your fingertips. Not to mention Hampton swag!
Once you've secured an invitation and your membership starts, our membership and curation team will begin the process of forming your core group. We look primarily at business model and traction, and then seek to group you with other founders who are similar enough to make your experience highly relevant, but different enough so you can learn and be challenged by them. We launch new groups quarterly in January, April, July, and October.

Core group meetings are on zoom and are typically 2 hours each. There are roughly 10 meetings per year; with flexibility around summer months and winter holidays. Each meeting is planned, organized and streamlined by an executive facilitator skilled in coaching and connecting.

The core group meetings are structured enough so that you always know what’s on the agenda and what is expected of one another, but with enough flexibility to allow for the highest-value conversation to emerge. The core group is our secret sauce, so we’d be happy to share more with you when you interview with our membership team.

We’re glad you asked! We have four C.O.R.E. values:

  1. Confidentiality: Everything in Hampton is completely confidential, and members have to sign a privacy pledge in order to gain access to the community. We treat this very seriously.
  2. Openness: We ask that you come to Hampton with a lot of transparency and a lot of excitement to be open, honest, and vulnerable. Speed to vulnerability is an often quoted motto.
  3. Respect: Treat everyone how you would like to be treated. It’s that simple.
  4. Effort: Give more than you take, and be ready to show up - with your whole self - on time.

Obviously we can’t divulge everyone in our community, but, we can tell you a bit about Hampton members in general. And of course, we can answer more questions should you be in the interview round of the application process.

Hampton members are either CEOs or founders, or both. Today, our members are concentrated in North America, primarily in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the UK. We’re certainly clustered around what we’d consider to be Tier 1 cities (LA, NYC, SF, Austin) and Tier 2 cities (Denver, Phila, Charlotte, San Diego, Nashville), but we’re in small cities and towns as well. In fact, we often find it’s our members in smaller locations that need and appreciate Hampton - and it’s sense of community - the most!

Hampton member companies are high-growth, tend to be tech-enabled or tech-first, and on average are doing $23M in revenue. We have founders that are bootstrapped and founders that have raised through Series C, D, and E, and then have gone through IPO. It really does vary. Industries include: 25% SaaS, 13% agency, 12% DTC, 9% marketplace, 7% services, 5% media, 5% fintech, 23% other.
